Nut Nutrition: a delicious guide to good health!

Nutrition & Health Tips & Tricks

As we turn the calendar’s page into a new year, many of us think of ways of improving our lives and often our health is a big area of concern. After the indulgences of the holidays, it’s the perfect time to embrace cleaner eating and healthier lifestyles.

It’s been said time and time again, but always rings true: health begins in the kitchen.

Our food choices are vital to our well being and form the building blocks of our lives.

Food fuels our days with energy and nourishes our bodies and souls.

Therefore, our foods should be embraced as a joy and not a dietary burden or punishment. Diets that are comprised of foods you love will always be easier to adhere to than diets comprised of foods you hate.

Luckily, nuts are an easy choice for healthy and enjoyable foods!

Consuming 1.5 ounces of unseasoned nuts daily as part of a healthy diet may reduce the risk of heart disease. Many varieties improve artery linings and lower LDL cholesterol, and are loaded with healthy fats (remember fat is not a “dirty word”; fats are an important building block of a healthy diet).

Reap the health benefits of nuts without increasing caloric intake by eating them as a replacement of foods that are high in saturated fats. Try swapping nuts for croutons in salad, or add them to yogurt instead of granola or cereal.

Nuts are also plant-based protein and can be used as a substitute in the diet for meat. While the “Meatless Monday” concept continues to gain momentum, nuts are a delicious and easy way to incorporate more plants into the diet.

Nuts also provide nutrients to fuel and nourish the body in many ways; each one brings us unique benefits. Check out some nut “super powers” in our handy chart below and enjoy all the benefits of healthy living.

We wish you the best of health and happiness in the New Year!
